There is a new type of game whose audience is growing day by day — NFT games. They operate using blockchain technology and are part of the new Play-to-Earn model. This means that you can earn money by selling NFTs obtained during the game.

In this article, we will discuss one such promising blockchain game — Gods Unchained. We will show you the gameplay, as well as the tokenomics and mechanics of NFT.

The essence of the game

Gods Unchained is a collectible card game (CCG) with non-fungible tokens that can be sold on NFT marketplaces. It has over 600,000 users.

The essence of the game is to build a strong deck of NFT cards. Players use their decks to battle each other and participate in tournaments. Cards can be won or purchased on OpenSea, Immutable, and other marketplaces.

Gods Unchained gameplay

The game offers several modes that are time-limited and change from time to time. Usually, one mode lasts about a week, then another one takes its place, meaning you cannot choose the mode yourself.

There are 4 game modes in Gods Unchained:

  • Ranked — a battle with 30 cards against a random player or a player of the same rank;
  • Sealed — 50 cards are randomly selected from all cards, excluding duplicates. The player selects 30 cards from them and goes into battle with them;
  • Draft — this mode is similar to Sealed, but the cards are selected in the 7th stage, where the player chooses five cards from the proposed set, receiving a total of 35 cards per game. At the end, they discard 5 unnecessary cards and continue into battle.
  • Constructed — a game with your own deck, assembled from all your cards.

To start the game, the user must choose a hero — a God — and build a deck — a set of 30 cards for battle. To build a strong deck, you need to understand the types of cards, their abilities, and how they interact with each other.

The resource for playing cards is called mana. The number of turns depends on the amount of mana. That is, the player can play and attack with as many cards as they have mana. The balance of the deck directly depends on this resource.

In the game, you play your cards and choose which of your opponent’s cards to attack. The bottom right corner shows your mana, and the top left corner shows your opponent’s mana. In the illustration, the player and opponent have zero mana.

Cards are divided into types: creatures, spells, weapons, and special God cards. They can also have unique abilities or attack conditions. For example, reducing the health and power of all cards on the opponent’s field.

When playing a card with a creature, spell, or weapon, you can choose an action:

  • heal yourself by damaging your opponent’s cards,
  • increase the power of your cards,
  • create certain creatures directly on the playing field for defense or attack.

Players have access to divine power, which can be used once per turn, and the ultimate ability can only be used once per game. The game continues until one of the opponents runs out of God health.

Types of cards in Gods Unchained

During the game, for each level you complete, you receive a pack with cards of a specific God and a Rare Pack in varying quantities. On the first and sixth levels, you get 5 packs, and on the rest, you get 2 packs.

They consist of 5 cards and most often contain 4 common cards and one rare card. Below we describe the different ranks and how to determine the rarity of the cards you get.

Cards are divided into neutral cards, which are available to all gods, and 6 other types that are tied to each god. The color of the crystal in the upper left corner of the card indicates which god (faction) it belongs to.

The card has strength and health indicators, information about abilities, rarity, and which god and clan it belongs to. For example, blue indicates the god of magic.

Rarity is determined by the color of the triangles next to the name. Cards are divided into 4 ranks depending on their rarity:

  • common — standard cards with gray triangles, most often found in free packs;
  • rare — rare cards with blue triangles;
  • epic — epic cards with purple fill;
  • legendary — legendary, with yellow fill.

If you play with a free deck against a user with a paid deck, it will be difficult to win, and even more difficult to win the championship. The game has paid card packs — Divine Order.

Tokenomics and NFT mechanics

The game has its own ERC-20 standard GODS token on the Ethereum blockchain. This is the main currency of Gods Unchained and can be used on the Immutable marketplace to purchase cards.

All cards that participate in the game process are NFTs. There is no fee to participate in the game and no commissions are charged for this.

The only two things you have to pay for are an electronic ticket to the championship and rare packs. These can be purchased on marketplaces. Rare cards are actively traded and can cost from $300 to several thousand dollars, and it is possible to earn money on them. They increase in price and are resold.

How to start playing

This game is a separate PC application, not a browser version. It is free and can be downloaded from the game’s official website. The entire interface is in English with no option to translate it into Russian. All you need to register is an email address.

After logging into the app and receiving your first cards, the game will offer you a tutorial. After completing it, you can choose your game mode and start battling.

To buy and sell NFTs and GODS tokens, you will need a MetaMask crypto wallet. You must connect and link it in the app and on the game’s website for better synchronization. In the first case, this can be done in the “Forge” tab, and in the second, in the ‘Market’ tab in the “Buy & Sell” section.

After that, when you log in to the marketplaces via MetaMask, your personal account will display the cards that can be sold. If you do not connect your wallet, you will not be able to buy or sell cards. And if you just want to play, you don’t need a wallet.
at your own risk.

Conclusion

We have told you about a promising blockchain game — Gods Unchained. You can start playing it today. With the help of blockchain technology, such games feature ecosystems in which virtual items, virtual movable and immovable property, and even the characters themselves can have liquidity that can be easily realized.

Gods Unchained is a collectible card game with NFTs that can be sold on well-known marketplaces. It is free to play, and to earn money, you need to win the championship or purchase paid packs. This means that regular cards from free distributions cannot be sold on the marketplace, only those that were obtained from paid packs or purchased with stars. It is also possible to sell rare cards from free packs, but they are very rare.
